Pakistani engineer manufactures country’s first voice-operated wheelchair
A student from LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences’) has manufactured a wheel-chair that can be controlled by voice. The chair can be operated through a smartphone application, making it far easier to use.
A graduate of electrical engineering program from LUMS, Faaiz Arbab is the creator of the ground-breaking masterpiece. He named her product ‘GOBEE’. He developed the wheelchair in collaboration with the NIC (National Incubation Center) Lahore and AYEco.
GOBEE’s mobile application has ‘Call N Go’ feature. As NIC Lahore official’s website gives details on it, the user can summon the wheelchair from a distance of 15 kilometers.
”Smartphone operated power wheelchair, with CallNGo feature, which makes it’s usage unique and inclusive for PWDs (Person with Disabilities), it’s user-focused design and ergonomics, make it best mobility machine so far.
Powerful 3200 RPM set of two motors allow up to 30 (degree) inclined drive. complimented with long-life battery pack, which enable the user to drive up to 40km per charge, while the charge time is as low as 100 minutes. With the top speed of 20 Kmph, the chair provides its user, the comfort one demands from a power chair.
GoBee can be remotely controlled with a smartphone application, that comes with an excellent user interface to ensure comfort of the user, and easier handling of the machine,” says the website.
Asad Umer also lauded AYECo’s work, saying it is innovative.
”Innovative work like this voice-activated wheelchair by AYECo. This is just the kind of work that needs to be projected.”
